MAY 19 PLANNING AND ORGANIZING MEETING
CANCELLED

There are multiple purposes for this meeting. One purpose will be to continue planning for our July 28th New Neighbors Back-to-School Brunch. Another is to finalize the Model UN agenda for the 2018-2019 school year. Another will be to finalize all work required to update the Featured Issues pages of the UNA-Orlando website.
In the days and weeks leading up to May 19th, several opportunities exist for anyone who is interested. Read the descriptions below and use the form at the bottom of this page to indicate which of the opportunities interest you.
Updates to the Featured Issues pages of the UNA-Orlando website
With seniors graduating, club leadership will be transferred to the members who will be returning to their schools in August. Our goal in the upcoming weeks will be to create learning materials that club leaders can use during the summer to inform themselves and throughout the 2018-2019 school year to prepare their members for major conferences.
If interested (especially if you have Model UN experience), you can help to update the Model UN pages on the UNA-Orlando website and you can help to create the learning materials that club leadership can use to build and manage their clubs.

Preparation for our July 28th New Neighbors event (Back-to-School supplies)
One component of the July 28th event will be the distribution of school supplies to any student but with an extra emphasis on students who will be attending schools in the Orlando area for the first time. From past experience, we recognize the importance of collecting donated supplies well in advance of the new school year.
If you are interested, you can gather writing materials and learning materials that you have in your house and encourage others to do the same. Then, on May 19th you can deliver the donated items to the Herndon Library and we can fill backpacks with equal shares of the supplies.
Preparation for our July 28th New Neighbors event (Musicians and Musical Instruments)
A second component of the July 28th event will a jam session among musicians that come from all around the world and from other parts of the U.S. For this to happen, we need musicians, especially if they come from other countries. Also, since it is likely that many of the people who have come here from elsewhere do not have the instruments with them that they used to play back home, there will be a logistical challenge to acquire instruments for them to use.
If you are interested, you can help to invite musicians to the May 19th Planning and Organizing meeting to include them in our discussion.
Preparation for our July 28th New Neighbors event (Invitations to Newly Arrived Neighbors)
The main purpose of our New Neighbors Project and, therefore, the main purpose for holding the July 28th event is to introduce people from Orlando to people from elsewhere as neighbors, not as strangers. With that in mind, it would be extremely helpful if we have a good mix of people on our planning and organizing team who come from Orlando, from other parts of Florida and other parts of the U.S., and from other parts of the world.
If you are interested, reach out to people you know who would be interested in helping to plan and organize our July 28th New Neighbors event and invite them to participate in our May 19th meeting.
Preparation for our July 28th New Neighbors event (Reserving a Location to be used on July 28th)
Finding a place to hold our next New Neighbors event has proven to be a bit of a challenge. Since we expect this to be larger than most of our events, we will need a location that is large enough to accommodate everyone but will still be in an acceptable cost range. Also, since it will be the hottest time of year, we will want what we have had in the past, which is an indoor/outdoor situation so that we can have activities inside and outside and when people have the A/C to run to when they get too hot.
If you are interested, you can be part of the team that helps to find a suitable location for July 28th.

COMPLETE THE FORM BELOW IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND THE MAY 19 MEETING OR IF YOU WANT
TO BE PART OF THE TEAM THAT IS PLANNING AND ORGANIZING OUR NEXT NEW NEIGHBORS EVENT
