2021 UN DAY TOPIC DISCUSSION (ONLINE)

NOV 10-15: MULTIPLE SESSIONS

  • Wednesday, November 10, 6:00-8:00pm

  • Thursday, November 11, 6:00-8:00pm

  • Sunday, November 14, 6:00-8:00pm

  • Monday, November 15, 6:00-8:00pm

------------------------

This year's topic is MISINFORMATION IN THE TIME OF COVID, CLIMATE CHANGE, AND CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS.

Normally, we attempt to hold our annual UN Day events in person and on the actual UN Day, which is October 24th. However, when it is not possible for us to meet on the actual UN Day, we make alternative arrangements. Due to the ongoing pandemic, this year's UN Day event will be held online, and we will conduct 4 sessions between Wednesday, November 10th and Monday November 15th.

The purpose of holding multiple sessions isn't for people to attend every session (unless they want to). It is to allow everyone the opportunity to participate in a way that best fits their own schedule, the event will be held over multiple sessions during November 11-14. Use the form at the bottom of this page to indicate the one or several sessions that you plan to attend.

MISINFORMATION IN THE TIME OF COVID, CLIMATE CHANGE, AND CONSTITUTIONAL CRISIS

Although the schedule is for us to meet in the middle of November, you can join the discussion immediately. Notice the videos and articles that we have placed in the Learning Resources section (below). You can use this content to familiarize yourself with this topic with the intent that you will then find more videos and articles to learn more. By the time our actual meeting sessions begin, we will all be equally informed and ready to jump right into the discussion.

For brainstorming purposes, consider the following questions:

  • Who are the sources of misinformation? Who are the culprits? Who are the people responsible for originating and distributing misinformation?

  • Does misinformation distort our ability to understand important issues and topics?

  • Is misinformation responsible for the irrational and violent behavior that we have experienced in recent years?

  • In addition to COVID, climate change, and denial of elections results, are there other issues that are targets of misinformation?
