On September 1st, 2019, Category 5 Hurricane Dorian reached the northernmost islands of the Bahamas and stalled for over 40 hours. Sustained winds of over 185mph and storm surges of up to 23 feet destroyed towns and cities on Abaco Island and Grand Bahama Island, including Marsh Harbor and Freeport. Refugees were received in Nassau and other parts of the Bahamas and in Florida.
