IMMIGRATION AND MIGRANT LABOR
: UNITED STATES
Despite many claims that the United States is “a nation of immigrants” US history is fraught with restrictive and oftentimes discriminatory immigration policies from the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 to the current policy of detaining undocumented immigrants at the US/Mexico border. This practice is the largest issue facing US immigration policy currently. It is tearing families apart and placing children in unlivable situations wherein they face at the very least malnourishment and emotional trauma. It is a shameful practice and its end should enjoy bipartisan support however such an end seems unlikely in the near future.
