CHILDREN AT RISK : WORLD

Children will become our future leaders, scientists, artists, politicians and well rounded successful adults within society. That makes it extremely imperative to assess situations they are being subjected to now, so that it doesn’t affect the state of our world's future. A variety of factors would consider a child "at risk" and many issues facing children are not just one challenge but a variety of issues that often intersect and cause additional risks in children's lives. Children have no agency in the risks that challenge them so it must be our responsibility as a society to address and resolve the risks facing children.

CHILD LABOR
Millions of children around the world are trapped in child labor, depriving them of their childhood, adequate health and education, and condemning them to a life of poverty. Of course, there is work that children do to help their families in ways that are neither harmful nor exploitative. But many children are stuck in unacceptable work for children – a serious violation of their rights. At current rates, more than 100 million children will still be trapped in child labor by 2020. The continuing persistence of child labour poses a threat to national economies and has severe negative short and long term consequences for the fulfillment of children’s rights guaranteed by the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) – including denial of education and frequent exposure to violence.

CHILD SOLDIERS
Tens of thousands of children are involved in conflicts in over 20 countries as child soldiers. In many cases they are ripped from their homes from ages as early as 6 and forced to fill the shoes of the number of adults lacking in their military.  Returning after being released continues to prove to be a struggle for children that have experienced the war. Reintegrating society as a child after witnessing atrocities such as war, rape, and murder prove to be difficult in child development.

CHILDREN OF WAR & CONFLICT
Wars and conflicts waged across the globe have lasting and devastating impacts for the people caught in the cross hairs. In most of these cases it is children that are disproportionately disposed to violence, abuse, relocation, lack of resources, and often do not receive the peaceful intervention needed to save them from this violence. The consequences of wars and conflicts can impact other risk factors for children around the world and aid in fueling child poverty, abuse, trafficking, and migration.
