GENDER EQUALITY AND WOMEN'S EMPOWERMENT
UNITED STATES

When looking at gender equality from a global view, we understand the international ways sexism is being perpetrated around the globe. However, when looking at gender equality in the context of the United States, it is important to understand the social, cultural, and gendered norms/roles American women experience in order to understand a national context of gender equality and women’s empowerment. This leads to several conversations about women’s rights, that are unique to the social, cultural, political, etc. climate that is specific to the United States. Historically, there have been several movements for women’s rights and feminism around the world; the U.S. has its own story of feminism, and the waves it happens in (or the waves it creates) have changed throughout time. Nonetheless, women and girls in the United States still fight on the basis of gender equality through every issue faced.
