SOCIAL IDENTITY
The Role of Identity Groups in Global Affairs
When events happen around the world, we often receive information that is overly simplified, incomplete, or misleading. What is missing is an adequate explanation of the groups of people who are involved.
How can anyone understand the conflict in Yemen without knowing who the Shafi'i and Zaydi are, or the genocide in Rwanda without knowing who the Tutsi and Hutu are? When analyzing such issues as politics, war, poverty, immigration, how is anyone supposed to understand the issue without a familiarity with the the various identity groups?
