According to the Congressional Research Service, published on January 13th, 2021, only seven days following the Attack on the U.S. Capitol, the acts demonstrated against Congress on January 6th, 2021 align with the FBI's Domestic Terrorism Definition. In addition, the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI, in late 2012, had already correlated Hate Crimes and the Threat of Domestic Extremism as Domestic Terrorism.
